‘Things like repo rate’: Dudu Zuma mocked over political views

Jacob Zuma’s daughter and “right hand” woman, Duduzile Zuma, is going viral over her political ambitions for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

The 42-year-old has been vocal about her support of her father, who has since expressed his plans to “recapture the ANC.”

Duduzile is the twin sister of Duduzane, who has also gone into politics. Their mother – the late Kate Mantsho – died in 2000 in an alleged suicide.

In a clip that has gone viral on social media, Duduzile Zuma was asked about the MK Party’s plans following its rise to power.

The party achieved over two million votes in last week’s general elections.

The daughter of the controversial politician spoke to various media houses at the election results centre in Midrand over the weekend.

However, Duduzile’s remarks have left many South Africans surprised at her lack of political knowledge, given her senior role in the party.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Duduzile was questioned on what the MK Party could offer South Africans. She responded: “The same kind of government that we had under President Jacob Zuma, those amazing nine years, very similar.

Asked to elaborate, she answered: “A better life for black people, improved education system, and much more.”

Speaking to the Sowetan, Duduzile Zuma was again questioned on the agenda of the MK Party.

She said: “There are a lot of agendas we want to drive in terms of being able to have a voice. Even within the party, we’re still fighting.

She continued: “Doing what the President said under his economy, which is great. We will just go back to that. Because the economy under Cyril Ramaphosa was dismal”.

When asked to elaborate on two key points in their economic plan, Duduzile responded: “We’ll probably look at things like the repo rate to assist in bringing down food prices or whatever. Things to alleviate poverty and too much strain on the pocket of the people”.

On social media, Duduzile Zuma’s vague and somewhat disconnected statements shocked social media users.

@GiftZangwa1: “She is only vocal behind the keyboard. In life, she’s boring.”

@isiQenqe_: “One can tell she doesn’t understand what she’s talking about.

@tbozm85: “The Andile Mpisane of politics”

@Jack4jil: “This one ke ‘I’m in because of daddy.’”

@Roger_Rodrigo1: “Or whatever? No plan, just vibes …. being an elite is so nice you don’t even have to understand. Just show up with a surname.”

Speaking to DJ Warras on The Shady Podcast, Duduzile Zuma revealed that she graduated from Wits Business School.

“People like to call me an airhead…no honey”, she said.

The mom-of-two claimed it was “difficult” to get a job “because of carrying this last name.”

“People thought we milked it [but] no one wanted to talk to us.”

Although she did not have a political background, Duduzile claimed she “loved it”. “I have a bit of understanding of it now”, she added.

Interestingly, both Duduzile and Duduzane played pivotal roles in the Gupta family businesses during their father’s presidential tenure.
