‘The River’ star Brenda Mhlongo joins ‘Sibongile and Dlaminis’

Talented actress Brenda Mhlongo who’s starred in Generations and The River has joined Mzansi Wethu’s telenovela, Sibongile and The Dlaminis.


 

BRENDA MHLONGO: NEW ROLE
Entertaiment commentator Jabu Mcdonald reports that former The River actress Brenda Mhlongo will play Sibongile’s aunt in Sibongile and Dlaminis.

TVSA April teasers suggest that Mhlongo’s character will be part of Sibongile’s negotiations with the Dlaminis.

Monday 22 April: “Sibongile’s aunty drops her off at the Dlamini home and demands they pay inhlawulo for their makoti.”

Mhlongo is famously known for her roles in e.tv’s canned telenovela, Imbewu: The Seed as Priscilla “KaMadonsela” Bhengu.

She’s also starred in SABC1’s soapie, Generations: The Legacy as Jack Mabaso’s (Vusi Kunene) wife, Nandi.

BACKGROUND: ‘SIBONGILE AND DLAMINIS’
Sibongile and The Dlaminis is the most-watched telenovela on Mzansi Wethu and is the second most-watched TV show on DStv.

The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) February 2024 figures reveal that the show secured 819 284 viewers.

It also stars actors Ayanda Borotho and Siyabonga Shibe, who play husband and wife in the telenovela.

Kaya 959 reports that actress Luyanda Zwane’s character Sibongile Mbambo has a surprising Cinderella-like tale awaiting her, and forbidden romance, when she joins The Dlaminis.

The show is set in the small town of Ixopo in KwaZulu-Natal and explores timeless themes of love, sacrifice, ambition, and familial bonds.

The show also draws inspiration from the Zambian tale of Zuba and the Solalas and also stars Zodumo Shange and Vuyo Biyela.
