Popular sangoma Gogo Skhotheni opens up about abuse

Sangoma, DJ and reality TV star Gogo Skhotheni took to her Instagram stories on Tuesday, 22 May, to reveal that she has been physically abused.

GOGO SKHOTHENI SHARES HER HORRIFIC ABUSE STORY
The former Izangoma Zodumo star – real name Tumi Motsoeneng – shared that she has bruises on her face. However, the mother-of-six said she will not share images as she does not want her children to ever see them.

“Abuse is a drug you end up normalising, but again, thank God I am alive,” Gogo Skhotheni said.

“I won’t post my face or the scars I had. I have kids to protect, but I am okay,” she added.

Further opening up in a series of posts, the podcaster revealed that two of her cell phones were damaged as a result of the abuse. She also shared screenshots of her conversation with her abuser (whom she did not mention) wherein they discussed the incident and she expressed her hurt.

“Being in the public eye sometimes is hard when you want to speak about such you have to think twice because wow I have seen other ladies being dragged for such,” she said.

WORKING ON HER MARRIAGE
Gogo Skhotheni is married to Monde Shange.

In January this year, she revealed on her Instagram stories that it had been six months since their split. At the time, Gogo Skhotheni explained that she and Shange are only ever seen together because of their children.

However, in an April interview with TshisaLIVE, the DJ revealed that she and her husband have worked on their differences and are back together.

“I’ve been on a very dark journey with myself, questioning a lot of things that were happening, especially with my son’s condition, my son being sick. My relationship with my husband was tempted a lot. We nearly filed for divorce but God carried us through it. It hasn’t been easy,” she said, adding that their son had been in an intensive care unit for a year and eight months.

HAVING TWO HUSBANDS
Shange is not the only man Gogo Skhotheni has married. In 2022, she revealed that she had taken a second husband, named Sibusiso, who lived separately from Shange. At the time, Gogo Skhotheni – who said she was instructed by her ancestors to marry a second man – explained that she saw her husbands according to a schedule they put together.

During her interview on Nkululeko n Cultr, however, Skhotheni said while she liked the idea of having more than one partner, Shange did not approve of it.

“It was a fun experience. If my husband would allow me to have a second husband, I think I would. It was fun seeing him get angry because I hardly do anything to my husband. My husband and I have never fought about mjolo (dating); we fight about serious stuff. So seeing him when I approached him about a second husband with him getting angry was a turn-on,” she said.

“It would be a nice experience, but no, there’s no second husband.”
