Popular Mzansi businesswoman, and reality TV star, Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize shot up trends list on Tuesday after the airing of her interview on Carte Blanche where she addressed allegations of being a convicted fraudster.
In an attempt to set the record straight, the reality TV star and businesswoman sat down with journalist and presenter Govan Whittles who presented her with evidence that showed she was charged and convicted for fraud in 2005 and had an expunged record.
In the interview, MaMkhize maintained her innocence, denying all allegations.
“All I can tell you is my record is clean and all I can tell you is I have never been charged in my personal capacity for fraud,” she said.
“[In] 2012 was not fraud, it was tax evasion. [In] 2005 it was because of the income tax number but I don’t want to dwell on that and it wasn’t me in my personal persona, it was the business. I have never been charged with fraud in my personal persona, not once.”
X users reacted to the interview and weighed in on the allegations.
While some said this was an attempt to tarnish the name of a successful black businesswoman, others deemed it a career suicide interview, and others laughed at her evasive answers.
“MaMkhize thought she’s was going to a podcast ka Penuel. She didn’t expect she’d be dealing with investigative journalists,” one X user wrote.
“I don’t know whose idea it was to allow MaMkhize to do this interview with Carte Blanche. Her lawyers were even present and they couldn’t stop the interview when they see their client getting bodied,” another user wrote.
