HCA Awards: Thuso Mbedu up against Kate Winslet and Zendaya

South African actress Thuso Mbedu is nominated alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Kate Winslet and Zendaya for a Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) award, announced on 8 July.

THUSO MBEDU NOMINATED FOR ‘BEST ACTRESS’
Thuso Mbedu has been on a winning streak since her leading role as Cora in drama series, The Underground Railroad which received praise from veteran talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Mbedu thereafter secured herself a role in upcoming film, The Woman King alongside How To Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis.


 


 

 

A few weeks ago Mbedu bagged herself a nomination for Outstanding Actress in TV Movie/ Limited Series Award for her role in The Underground Railroad at the Black Reel Tv Awards. Now the actress is going up against Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Olsen, Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Cynthia Erivo and Michaela Coel for the Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Movie Award at the HCA awards to be held on 22 August.

THUSO AT ‘F9’ SCREENING
Thuso Mbedu recently rubbed shoulders with Charlize Theron and others at the exclusive screening of the ninth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. South African born Theron hosted the outdoor screening to raise funds for her non-profit organisation, the Charlize Theron African Outreach Project (CTAOP) which aims to work with community organisations to prevent the spread of HIV among youth in Africa.

The Atomic Blonde star joined the Fast and Furious franchise in the eight installment where she played the villain Cipher. She returned to her role in the latest installment, F9. The screening had an exclusive guest list which Thuso was added to alongside actors from the Fast and Furious family.

Mbedu excitedly took to Instagram to share pictures from the screening. She was styled by celebrity stylists Wayman and Micah in Ulla Johnson.

“WHAT AN AMAZING EVENING! Fresh air. Good vibes. Good people. Good franchise. Good energy. Good outreach project. Good everything,” wrote Mbedu on Instagram.

“Thank you very much @charlizeafrica for inviting us to the screening of #Fast9. Thank you for all the work you’re doing with #CTAOP ❤️❤️❤️,” she added.

Theron also posted a picture of Mbedu on her Instagram along with other pictures from the screening.

“Last night was a dream – thank you SO much to everyone who came out for CTAOP’s Night Out: Fast and Furious. Was such a blast to see friends in real life again, and I’m beyond grateful for the support and love shown for my foundation. A night I won’t soon forget ????,” wrote Theron on Instagram.
