Uzalo actress Baby Cele was forced by her ancestors to leave the most popular soap opera in Mzansi, Uzalo, in order to concentrate on her indumba and ancestral work.

The 52-year-old Umlazi, South Africa-born actress, claimed to be a sangoma, having become one in 2004 when her ancestors permitted her to prioritize her acting career over their duties.The numerously honored actress claimed that her ancestors have now commanded her to concentrate on her sangoma activity.

 

 

 

 

Baby, the 2023 Simon “Mabhunu” Film and TV Awards winner for Best Supporting Actress in Film, added that she came to the realization that she didn’t have much time left over to carry on her ancestors’ legacy, according to Daily Sun.My ancestors were patient with me as I was busy acting and not having enough time for them, but eventually, they made it clear that now it’s time for me to focus more on indumba.They assured me that I shouldn’t be nervous because they’ll take care of me. I’m not worried because I know that my ancestors always take care of me. I know they don’t close doors and not open another one,” she said.

Baby, who has been in the industry since 1986 and has appeared in shows like Sarafina! and Backstage, claimed that concentrating on her indumba is unique to her existence.

“I have peace in my life. Yes, my life was not bad, but I always felt that there was something missing, which is my sangoma gift.I understand that this gift is not easy for many people. But I can safely say that it’s a walkable journey. People should understand that ancestors need us as we need them too,” she said.

“It’s important to always communicate with your ancestors because if you have a calling, your ancestors will tell you what to do.I’ll be focusing more on my ancestral calling but acting will always be part of my life. I’ll still be acting part-time,” she said.
