‘What a great thespian’: Florence Masebe mourns Sello Motloung

Award-winning actress Florence Masebe has joined local celebs who’ve mourned Sello Motloung on social media.

Florence, who has starred in Ring of Lies, Muvhango, and Soul City, among other TV shows, penned a touching tribute to her late acting industry peer. The devastating news of Sello’s passing broke on Monday, 16 September. Tshisa Live reports the 54-year-old star, who was born in Meadowlands, Soweto died on Sunday afternoon after collapsing.


 

FLORENCE MASEBE PRAISES SELLO MOTLOUNG
Taking to her Instagram feed, Florence sang Motloung’s praises for nailing his TV roles. He appeared in TV shows including Rhythm City, Backstage, and Ring of Lies, according to IOL.

“What a great thespian you were. A fine, pleasant human being. I even feel like correcting myself for the past tense here. Thank you for being true to your craft. Thank you for showing up and nailing the brief every time so we could enjoy your fine work, ” wrote Florence.

Motloung died a few days after the passing of seasoned actor, Darlington Michaels. Michaels, 78, who was affectionately known as Papa G, a character he portrayed in Isidingo for many years. Papa G died on Friday, 13 September.

A few hours before his passing, Motloung took to Facebook to bid farewell to Papa G. Motloung and Papa G played leading roles in Chikin Biznis. Connie Chiume, another late TV personality, also appeared in the film released in 1999.

KATLEGO DANKE MOURNS SELLO MOTLOUNG
Former Generations star Katlego Danke took to her timeline to mourn the passing of Sello Motloung. She joined scores of South Africans who sent their condolences to Motloung’s family and loved ones.

She said 2024 proved to be a difficult year for the acting industry, adding that it’s filled with pain and loss.

“Sello, my brother, my friend; I will miss you. I can’t believe I’m saying these words, but RIP,” part of Katlego’s post reads.

FANS BID SELLO MOTLOUNG FAREWELL
While some comforted Florence, other social media users also said their last goodbyes to Motloung.

harrietmanamela said: “May his wonderful soul rest in peace. His jokes will be dearly missed.”

nyamkhuzi wrote: “I’m very sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace and may you be comforted.”

rosettamasipa commented: “He was all that and more. Aggggg, Sello was IT hey. What an incredible human being.”

peterndalamo added: “Every day is a new reason to mourn another fallen Hero…..Goodnight Sello Motloung.”
