Popular South African actor, Uzalo star Cebo Mthembu is recovering well from an ankle operation.
Now, the 40-year-old actor and musician wants to run the iconic Comrades Marathon, about 85 kilometres in 2025.
This after Cebo, who plays the comic Detective Khalabemgeza Nyawo, missed the Comrades Marathon in June 2024 due to his operation in April.
Cebo, from Manguzi in northern KZN, told the publication that as he’s feeling better and has started participating in short-distance races in preparation for the 2025 Comrades Marathon.
He recently took part in the Hollywood Bets 10km race held at Durban’s Kings Park Stadium on Sunday, 29 September.
“I was heartbroken when I missed the Comrades Marathon this year because of the operation, as I started participating in the iconic marathon in 2018. I miss the way people cheer for me when I run. I think from start to finish, people love to see me running, and that motivates me. My club, Manguzi Athletic Club, will be happy to have me back,” he said.

The actor said he’s taking things step by step to accommodate his recovery.
“I started by running 10kms, then I’ll follow with 20kms and more to be fit and qualify for the Comrades Marathon. I’m happy that in the Hollywood Bets race, I made one hour and 15 minutes, which wasn’t bad at all. Before the operation, I was doing 10km within an hour,” he said.
Cebo is also a member of the Clermont Choir and recently performed with the choir in Dubai and New York in September.

He said he’s grateful that his operation’s healing well, because he managed to travel overseas to perform with the choir.
