Thabiso Sikwane died hours before milestone 50th birthday celebration

With South Africans yet to come to terms with the untimely death of seasoned radio broadcaster Thabiso Sikwane, it has been revealed that she died hours before her 50th birthday celebrations.

Despite turning 50 in July, Thabiso Sikwane had scheduled her birthday celebrations for 31 August, the day she died.

Thabiso Sikwane’s family confirmed news of her untimely death with a press statement.

Part of the statement reads, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thabiso, whose dedication and passion for Christ, family life and the media and entertainment left an indelible mark on colleagues and audiences alike.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss and pray her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”

The family also revealed that details of Thabiso Sikwane’s memorial and funeral services will be shared in the coming days.

Thabiso Sikwane quickly became one of the most celebrated anchors and radio hosts with an illustrious career spanning years.

Over the years, she has had the opportunity to work with some of South Africa’s biggest stations, including Voice of Soweto, SAFM, Power FM and Kaya FM.

Thabiso Sikwane leaves behind three children. She was once married to DJ Fresh for two decades before divorce.

DJ Fresh has since revealed what might be the cause of her death in a now-viral video. He said, “We are told it could have been a cardiac event. But what could have caused it hasn’t been ascertained.”

The celebrated DJ added, “We await a postmortem that would give everyone clarity. It doesn’t make sense to anyone how this could happen out of the blue.

“We’ll keep you updated on memorial and funeral details.”

THABISO SIKWANE DIED JUST HOURS BEFORE 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
However, Sikwane family spokesperson Thami Ngubeni revealed to the media that Thabiso Sikwane was expecting to celebrate her 50th birthday the day she died.

Speaking to SMag, Thami Ngubeni said, “It was a belated birthday celebration scheduled yesterday [Saturday] in Johannesburg.

“Thabiso turned 50 on July 3. She was on a missionary trip and decided to celebrate her birthday in the service of the Lord.”

She added, “She only managed to schedule her 50th on August 31 to celebrate it with everyone.”

However, Ngubeni also revealed that the celebrated host was admitted after she suddenly felt ill on 28 August.

Ngubeni added, “Sikwane “suddenly fell ill on Wednesday, August 28, and was admitted to hospital and transitioned to glory in the early hours of Saturday morning on August 31.
