Poet Ntsiki Mazwai took to social media to drag media personality Unathi Nkayi as she accused the government and Minister Gayton McKenzie of corruption.
UNATHI NKAYI SPEAKS OUT ON NTSIKI MAZWAI’S DAMNING COMMENTS
However, she made it known that the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture tagged Unathi Nkayi to Cuba along with 14 other South African authors, yet she is not a best-selling author.
The celebrated singer and radio presenter Unathi Nkayi was honoured to perform for Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel at the prestigious Havana Book Fair in Cuba.
With the star winning big on the international stage, poet Ntsiki Mazwai took to social media to question her achievements as an author. She also took a swipe at the sports minister.
An unapologetic Ntsiki Mazwai questioned Minister Gayton McKenzie, “They chose someone who isn’t even a writer or poet. Cuba specifically asked for us. Unathi is not a writer.”
Against the damning remarks, Unathi Nkayi opened up about how their beef started. She has it that in 2002, Ntsiki Mazwai accused her of stealing.
Unathi Nkayi said, “In 2002, two days after I hosted the SAMAs, she found my number and called me. I had never met her, had never spoken to her, and did not know of her until then.
“She accused me of stealing her designs whilst I hosted the awards.”
The media personality added, “As history has recorded, I was dressed by the amazing Mr and Mrs Mangaliso of Sungoddess, and I have never been a designer.
“My being has annoyed her for 23 years, as in uyancitheka arhawzelelwe ngumstsi okwengathi uneworms (Her anger tears her a** up), up to a point that she now says I am not the best-selling author that I am.”
PUBLIC APOLOGY
However, Ntsiki Mazwai has since apologised with a press statement that has flooded online.
Part of her apology post reads, “I would like to sincerely apologise for my recent post. Upon further consideration, I realise that the comments made were not only inappropriate but may have caused unnecessary harm and confusion.”
Ntsiki Mazwai added, “While the intention was to express frustration, I understand that such statements can be misinterpreted or damaging, and for that, I apologise.”
After all, the apology comes after Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie threatened her with legal action after her damning allegations.
