‘Queen Modjadji’ viewership declines

Rhythm World’s latest Sunday night drama series, Queen Modjadji has lost viewers.

The Broadcasting Research Council of SA (BRCSA) July figures reveal that Queen Modjadji received 584 264 viewers and reached less than 409k viewers in August.

Entertainment commentator, Jabu Mcdonald reveals that ‘Queen Modjadji’ saw the biggest decline in viewership in August.

The show also failed to make the top 30 most-watched shows of the month.

The show tells the story of the Rain Queen, the ruling monarch for the Balobedu people in Limpopo, and her ancestors.

It delves into the rich history of the legendary rainmaker whose lineage has reigned for generations.

Queen Modjadji stars Wiseman Zitha, Makoma Mohale, Putla Sehlapelo, Sipho Ndlovu and more stars.

Other cast members include Helen Lebepe as Raisibe, Ngelekanyo Ramulodi, who portrays Young Queen Modjadji.

Bona reports that beauty queens Shudu Musida and Ndavi Nokeri, who hail from the Limpopo province play queens in the drama series

Nokeri portrays Muthanoni Khensani, who is one of the wives from the Tsonga Royal Family. While Musida portrays Muthanoni Mulalo, another wife of the wives from the Venda Royal Family.

Leading the production is renowned poet, playwright, and producer Duma Ndlovu. His vision was to craft a series that offers viewers an opportunity to engage with the Lobedu culture and traditions.

It’s produced by Rhythm World Productions, who’ve produced Sibongile and The Dlaminis, My Brother’s Keeper, Umkhokha: The Curse, etc.

The historically inspired drama series debuted on Sunday, 14 July, on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
