The actress Phindile Gwala opens up about playing a ruthless woman MaNdlovu in uZulu no Mhlaba and businesswoman Fikile Bhengu in e.tv’s telenovela Imbewu: The Seed with Drum Magazine.
Gwala reveals to Drum that her new role MaNdlovu is ruthless and different from her previous roles.
“This woman is very ruthless and harsh. She is different from who I am and what I have played before. I have to work 10 times more to bring this character to life.”
The former Muvhango actress also tells the publication that playing two roles at the same time is tricky but Phindile loves a good challenge.
“Both these women are totally different from each other and from who I am in real life. But I enjoy being someone else. I just have to work ten times harder to portray their differences, without mixing the two. They both have different personalities, and the challenge excites me. Bringing them to life excites me.”
‘IMBEWU: THE SEED CHARACTER IS A GO-GETTER’
According to Drum Magazine, Fikile is a go-getter like her and she relates more to her than MaNdlovu.
“She has big dreams, and she is confident like me. She fights for what belongs to her and I am exactly the same. We have similar qualities but more differences. I’m very bubbly and Fikile is not yet bubbly.”
“I have both my loving and caring parents, but my upbringing is very different, she has mother, father, and family issues, and she’s the only child. There are of us at home, I am the fifth child, and our home is big and warm. Also, when it comes to doing things, Fikile can be a bit harsh while I take things easy and do things with patience and love.”
Gwala is looking forward to seeing how people will respond to both her characters in Imbewu and uZulu no Mhlaba.
