Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is making headlines against the backdrop of his birthday. The Amakhosi legend recently turned a year older, and Mzansi quickly flooded his social media feeds with warm birthday wishes.

With a career spanning years, Itumeleng Khune has quickly become one of the most celebrated goalkeepers in South Africa.

ITUMELENG KHUNE’S AGE REVEALED
However, age has been catching up with him, and little is known about his future, given that his contract with Kaizer Chiefs runs out this month. Itumeleng Khune is trending after fans managed to connect the dots about his age.

Many were puzzled by Itumeleng Khune’s age. He has undoubtedly managed to look sharp and fit as an athlete. The 37-year-old star was born on 20 June 1987 in Ventersdrop, South Africa.

Taking to Instagram on his birthday, the star posted, “I’m truly grateful for the Love and support I’m getting from each and every one of you 😉I THANK YOU 🙌🏽 One Love.”

However, fans and fellow stars quickly flooded his comments section with their two cents. Orlando Pirates star man Zakhelele Lepasa commented, “Happy birthday, skipper.” SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt posted, “Happy birthday, legend.”

IS KAIZER CHIEFS’ LEGEND FUTURE IN LIMBO?
With his contract coming to an end this month, Itumeleng Khune has tough choices to make. The club has not indicated extending its deal, but the player and his camp remain hopeful.

Despite the highs and lows, Khune reportedly hopes to extend his stay with the glamour boys, with whom he has won big during his 25-year stint. Khune joined the Glamour Boys at age 12.

With Kaizer Chiefs set to announce the signing of Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, a major squad overhaul is also reported to be on the cards. However, older players might be on the firing line since the great tactician believes in young talent.

However, five options Khune might consider reportedly include staying at Kaizer Chiefs. The Kaizer Chiefs legend might stay at the club if offered a new contract despite not having more game time.

Joining the technical team of Kaizer Chiefs—However, Mzansi has been trying to determine whether he will be tagged along since Nabi is said to be coming with his coaching staff. As reports suggest, it is still unknown if Khune will join the technical bench.

“They have lost many legends to other teams before, and they don’t want to do the same with Itu, and that’s why they are offering him a job and a contract in the coaching department. Of course, it will do with goalkeeping coaching, but (he can) also help in other areas,” a source told Soccer Laduma in February.

“He is a legend, and they want to honour him as such, hence the talks which are ongoing about his new post at the club,” the source added. Other rumoured options include pursuing coaching, joining punditry, or seeking game time at another club that offers a good deal.
