Marothi: More Than Just a Character
Speaking to Daily Sun, Macks emphasized that even though he left the show a year and a half ago, his character Marothi Maphothoma remains widely recognized.

“Today, even after a one-and-a-half-year absence from your screens, Marothi Maphothoma is quite an established brand. How many people can say their character is a brand? I can,” he said.

He explained that the legacy of his character lives on, making him highly sought after for various events and engagements.

“It doesn’t matter where I am. When they call me for MC work, it’s because they want Marothi,” Macks added.

His performance on Skeem Saam not only won him a loyal fanbase but also created opportunities beyond acting, such as hosting events and making public appearances as a well-known figure.

Advice for Aspiring Actors
Having worked in the entertainment industry for 39 years, Macks Papo has accumulated vast experience and wisdom. He strongly believes in honing one’s craft and encourages young actors to train and educate themselves in their profession.

“Aspiring actors need to train, educate their craft, own it, and while they are in that stage, they will get called and invited to act,” he advised.

Macks understands that dedication and continuous learning are crucial for longevity in the entertainment industry. His own journey, filled with hard work and perseverance, serves as an inspiration to emerging talents.

39 Years in the Industry and Counting
With almost four decades in the entertainment industry, Macks Papo has earned respect from peers and audiences alike. Many refer to him as a legend, but he remains humble, saying he will only embrace the title once he completes 40 years in the industry in 2026.

“People like calling me a legend, but I keep saying they must give me until next year, 2026, and once I finish it, they can call me a legend,” he said.

Despite his years of experience, Macks maintains a youthful spirit, which he attributes to his passion for working with young talent.
“I like them young because they keep me young. I love training young talent because they keep me young,” he shared.

His mentorship and dedication to nurturing upcoming actors reflect his commitment to giving back to the industry that made him a household name.

A Spiritual Journey
Beyond acting, Macks revealed that he has been on a deep spiritual journey. He describes himself as a growing student of spirituality and believes he is a prophet in the making.

“I’m a growing student of spirituality, a prophet in the making, but already gifted with certain powers,” he added.

This revelation showcases a different side of Macks Papo, highlighting his personal growth and exploration of spirituality as an important aspect of his life.

What’s Next for Macks Papo?
While Skeem Saam helped establish Macks as a powerful brand, he continues to thrive in the industry. He is currently part of Muvhango, where his talents continue to shine.

His passion for storytelling, mentoring young talent, and spiritual growth ensure that his journey is far from over. Whether on-screen, mentoring rising stars, or exploring his spiritual path, Macks Papo remains a force to be reckoned with in South African entertainment.

Although Skeem Saam may no longer be his current project, the legacy of Marothi Maphothoma will live on in the hearts of fans and in his ever-growing career.
