Moneni Pirates bosses have laughed off a teaser by for Royal AM CEO MaMkhize – real name Shauwn Mkhize – in which she expressed interest in purchasing the Eswatini soccer club.
The reality TV star made headlines over the weekend when she attended the club’s Ingwenyama Cup final against Royal Leopards.
The billionaire businesswoman has come under fire over her numerous clashes with the law, including tax evasion worth over R40 million, fraud, forgery and bribery.
PIRATES RESPOND TO MAMKHIZE’S INTEREST IN CLUB
Speaking to FARPost, Moneni Pirates president Thulani Xaba stated that he was unaware of MaMkhize’s interest in the cub.
He said: “I haven’t spoken to or met her. There’s nothing that has been spoken from my end to me…. I think it’s just more mileage for her socials. As for the team, nothing has been spoken to us about her.”
Xaba also shadily responded to MaMkhize’s criminal allegations and implied that she was not necessarily the person they would want representing the club. He also hinted at Royal AM possibly being expelled from the PSL after it was placed in conservatorship.
He continued: “She doesn’t have a team. As the president of the team, I would want to partner with her… but what growth can she add? What value can she add to the team? I would look at a strategic value-add partner that will say, ‘Look, I’ve got five midfielders, but I can’t field all in one game. I need to send them to you to get game time.
“And then, obviously, from my end, feed into the South African market for exposure and possibly sell. That is what I would look into.”
IT’S NOT OVER, UNTIL IT’S OVER?
Meanwhile, MaMkhize is set to meet with the PSL board of governors on Thursday, 10 April, to discuss expelling Royal AM from the association.
This follows a recommendation by the executive committee to cancel Royal AM’s league membership due to its inability to fulfill its league obligations.
The meeting will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre.
