Earlier this week, the department released the names of artists, creatives, and athletes who received relief funds during South Africa’s two-year restrictions.
DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS, ARTS AND CULTURE RELIEF FUND RECIPIENTS
However, the list had a host of notable celebrities, including Podcast and Chill host MacG, The Kiffness, real name David Scott and Arthur Mofokate. A 90-page document with 3 962 beneficiaries is making rounds on the internet.
A department panel vetted beneficiaries who applied for funding and their applications. However, upon approval, funds were paid as a one-off payment to approved beneficiaries to assist the artists, creatives, and sports people during the lockdown.
Some beneficiaries received R10 000 and R75 000, while others received as little as R2 000. Eight beneficiaries received R75 000. Among the eight recipients, MacG, influencer, and businessman Mohale Motaung were notable names.
However, Mohale Motaung’s inclusion on the list left many people concerned. Undoubtedly, many have been trying to connect the dots about his business portfolio.
Mohale Motaung reportedly received relief funds for a company that no longer exists. Confirmed reports have it that Glam Troupe last operated in October 2020—the company majors in matric dance makeovers.
Surprisingly, he received double the amount most beneficiaries received from the department. However, against the list, Mzansi questioned Mohale’s credibility and demanded answers from the department.
