‘Not fair’: Rachel Kolisi shares emotional update amid divorce

Rachel Kolisi – the former wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi – has given a glimpse at her raw stage healing journey, navigating life post-divorce.

Her social media post comes weeks after she officially stepped down as CEO of their joint charity foundation.

Less than six months ago, the Kolisis – who have two children – announced their separation in a statement. They have both rebranded themselves as strong, single parents.

RACHEL KOLISI SHARES EMOTIONAL TIKTOK
In a TikTok video, Rachel Kolisi posted a clip of her reading what appeared to be a Bible.

Across the video were the words: “‘You’re handling it so well,’ vs what I really feel a lot of the time”. The audio was the words “Not fair” repeated over and over again.

Rachel captioned the post: “Some days are harder than others. Still choose the light”.

“This too shall pass, Rachel. Better days are yet to come.”

“Thank you for being so vulnerable.”

“Sout African women are resilient. We will make it through the other side”.

“We’ve got your back.”

LIVING WITH DEPRESSION
Speaking on Mpoomy Ledwaba’s Wisdom and Wellness podcast recently, Rachel Kolisi again discussed how helping others via the Kolisi Foundation has changed her life and helped her in her healing journey in her divorce from Siya Kolisi.

Speaking of her mental health, she said: “All through my life, I struggled with depression severely as a teenager to the point that I tried to commit suicide, and I had a massive awakening through serving others, and in some ways, serving others has almost been a lifeline for me.”

She continued: “I truly believe that it’s one of the biggest privileges in our humanity. I think every one of us has something that’s been implanted from God and it requires us to have empathy, and to love and to see people for where they are and for what they might be going through …

“It’s a God-given gift to be able to serve.”

In 2021, Rachel Kolisi spoke at length, again with Mpoomy Ledwaba, about her mental health issues.

Rachel stated that her parents’ divorce during her teens led her to spiral out of control by joining the wrong crowd, drinking and smoking, and self-harming.

She said: “I tried to commit suicide when I was 15. So I spent about two to three years cutting myself and crying for help but not finding it”.

Despite overcoming suicidal thoughts, Rachel revealed she still seeks therapy to manage much of life’s challenges.
