Mzansi Reacts To Doja Cat’s Performance, Zulu Genes Are Too Strong

Doja Cat, real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini’s video dancing like a Maskandi artist has got South Africans going on social media. The clip of the US rapper performing Paint The Town Red is doing the rounds on X.South Africans quickly claimed Doja Cat as their own as her father is a Zulu man. Excited fans claimed her dance moves reminded them of performers from KwaZulu-Natal.KwaZulu-Natal-born stars such as rapper Big Zulu, singer Sjava, and Khuzani Mpungose are all known for pulling the same moves that Doja Cat did. They pull up their pants as if they’re about to bust traditional Zulu dances when they’re on stage


 


 

Maskandi music stars also like rocking Carvella sandals, Brentwood pants, and colourful towels when performing. Many on X thought the Kiss Me More hitmaker was wearing a Brentwood trouser in the video.Doja Cat’s dad is legendary Sarafina actor Dumisani Dlamini. Her mother is Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer. Dumisani met Doja’s mom in New York in the 1990s when he travelled to the US with the Sarafina cast. After their split, Doja lived with her mother in the States.

Doja Cat hogged headlines when she claimed she had never met him. In response, Dumisani claimed he tried to contact Doja Cat for years, but her management blocked all his efforts.Following the media storm about never meeting his daughter, Dumisani claimed he and Doja Cat were on speaking terms. In a radio interview, the Yizo Yizo star said they communicate on the phone.

He reiterated that it was a lie that he was an absent father. He further claimed he and Doja Cat were planning a family reunion in South Africa.

“My daughter will be coming. We are currently planning her visit. My child will be coming.”
