Influenced by his family’s tradition, Mzukulu chose to uphold this legacy in his own career.

He spoke to Daily Sun about his nomination in the Best Traditional Collaboration category at the recently held South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (Satmas) and spoke of what has kept him firmly rooted in his music journey.“I respect my talent, and always respect other people. There’s nothing more important than humility. We were taught from a young age to be respectful and humble, and learned how to handle negativity gracefully,” Mzukulu said.

He is grateful for the Satma nomination, and this motivates him to work harder in pursuit of perfection.

“I want to thank everyone who has supported me and the Satmas for the opportunity. The nomination shows that my work is recognised, although I don’t always see it myself.”Reflecting on his approach to music, Mzukulu shared a guiding principle he set for himself when he entered the industry.

“I don’t want to end up saying hurtful words to anyone. Music should carry a message, entertain people, and give young people hope for the future,” he said.

The 19th edition of the Annual Satma Awards will take place at the Durban Suncoast Globe on Saturday, 30 November.

The event will be a celebration of the South African heritage through music and fashion.
