Masasa Mbangeni Former Scandal! actress is a new person!

A THREE-YEAR break from the small screens has turned actress, Masasa Mbangeni into a new being.

The former Scandal! actress spoke to Daily Sun about her comeback and other recent projects.

Masasa (37) from Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, said the Covid-19 pandemic inspired her to look deeper.

“In the midst of navigating a pandemic, I was teaching and studying. I was growing and exploring. I was also grateful for the time I took to teach because it gave me an opportunity to grow. That’s when I got to know myself, to learn, teach and experience life. I think it’s important for artists to be able to do that in order to portray a character,” she said.“I have a qualification from Trinity College in London which allows me to teach drama and an honours degree from Wits which allows me to teach drama,” Masasa said.

She recently starred in the Netflix film, Heart of The Hunter. She said it was her best work yet.

“The time I took to live life in the past years is going to be reflected in the character I play. I don’t think I’ve brought to a character like I did this one. I owe that to the time I took for myself. I know myself well enough now and can play this character perfectly,” she said.

Masasa stars alongside Connie Ferguson, Bonko Khoza and Sisanda Henna in the movie.

“It was an incredible honour to work with everyone. You see that everyone was clear about the assignment and knew what part to play in the well-oiled machine,” she said.

The actress also starred as Mrs Makeba in season four of Blood & Water.

“I’ve been harassing the producers of the show, asking to be on it. I auditioned a lot of times, but never got any role. Mrs Makeba’s daughter is new to the story. People say my character is strict.

“I think my job as an actress is not to judge, but I don’t see the strictness. What I see is a mum who’s trying by all means to protect her child,” she said.
