Celebrated businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, affectionately known as MaMkhize, is making headlines due to her tax woes with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
Earlier this week, SARS, with the assistance of the police and other state agencies, raided her Durban home.
TAXMAN RAID SHAUWN MKHIZE‘S DURBAN MANSION
According to the latest reports, the businesswoman owes SARS around R40 million in unpaid taxes.
Last year, MaMkhize reportedly had an R12.7 million debt, but it ballooned to R37 million after being ordered to pay former Royal AM star Samir Nurkovic’s two-year contract in full.
Against the news, SARS confirmed their recent raid. The taxman revealed that the raid was part of its ‘effort to combat tax evasion and criminal activities that undermine the country’s economy.’
The publication has since established that the raid was done to preserve and secure assets from the businesswoman who has been avoiding the taxman on several occasions.
Earlier this year The South African reported that SARS was failing to close down on MaMkhize after they had obtained an execution order against Royal AM and MaMkhize.
At the time, reports stated that ‘at some point, there was a standoff between two security companies when SARS tried to seize some of her assets.’
Social media is abuzz after several videos of the flashiest cars being towed made rounds on X. Some users even referred the fleet to MaMkhize’s, but there is no official confirmation yet.
Many are still trying to determine whether MaMkhize is failing to settle the debt; her fortune has since been implicated in the mix.
