Zimbabwean-born comedian, content creator, and actor Chik Aljoy—who is based in South Africa—has embraced the month of love with a life-changing step.
Over the weekend, he paid lobola for his longtime partner, Gugulethu “Answered Prayer” Moyo, marking a significant milestone in their relationship. But for Chik, this wasn’t just a romantic gesture—it was a deeply spiritual journey.
A Love Written in Prayer For Chik Aljoy
Reflecting on his relationship, Chik Aljoy, born Aljoy Anesu Chikowo, reveals that Gugulethu was an answered prayer in every sense. Unlike the women he had previously been drawn to, she wasn’t what he would have considered his “type”—but she was exactly who he needed.
“I prayed for a woman like her,” Chik Aljoy told The South African. “She is not the typical woman I used to approach or ‘my type.’ I remember asking God to present to me the right one, and after that prayer, I realised the one for me wouldn’t be who I usually went for, but who God wanted me to spend the rest of my life with. When I met her, I felt drawn to her, and I knew right there she was the one.”
The comedian describes his lobola ceremony as a deeply significant moment for his relationship. He also sees it as an important part of his spiritual journey.
“As a cultural person, this milestone means a lot. From here, I have confidence in my spiritual guides because I know they are proud of me,” he said.
Chik Aljoy Kept it Private Before Making It Public
Chik is a social media sensation known for entertaining thousands with his hilarious skits. However, he kept his relationship private for over a year before gradually introducing Gugulethu to his audience.
“I kept her a secret from my content for a year and some months. Then, I recently started doing some videos with her,” Chik Aljoy said.

While Chik Aljoy is widely recognised for his comedic content, he is also a talented actor. Having played roles in popular South African series The Wife and DiepCity, he is passionate about his craft.
“I enjoyed every moment of it all because, above everything, acting is my first love. And when given an opportunity, I grabbed it with both hands.”
