Well-known South African actor Melusi Mbele, who portrays the role of Jojo Kubeka has exited Scandal!
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela confirms Meluso Mbele’s departure from the e.tv soapie, Scandal! as Jojo.
Mphela adds that Jojo’s story will wrap up on Monday, 17 June 2024.
Mbele won a Safta (South African Film and Television Award) for his role as Jojo in 2023.
The soapie revealed that Rantsoma resigned from the popular show and will exit the show on 24 July.
IOL confirms Mbele won Best Actor in a TV Soap for the popular character.
The actor is the second star to exit the e.tv soapie this season after Mathews Rantsoma who plays the role of Nhlamulo.
“Matthews approached us to advise us that he would like to pursue other ventures. The production and the channel support his decision and have agreed to release him. He will exit the story at the end of July. We wish success in his future,” reads the statement.
Rantsoma joined the popular soapie in 2021 as Lindiwe’s (Nomvelo Makhanya) lover and Vuvu’s (Mamarumo Marokane) baby daddy.The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa’s (BRCSA) May figures reveal that Scandal! is currently fourth place with 3.5 million viewers.
The soapie was dethroned by Smoke and Mirrors which is third most-watched TV show on e.tv with 3.6 million viewers.
The figures also reveal that Scandal! lost more viewers between April and May as the show received 3.8 million viewers in April.
Scandal! lost its signature first position in March when SABC1’s soapie, Skeem Saam debuted on the 19:30 timeslot.
Skeem Saam’s viewership has increased as the show received 4 million viewers in April and 4.43 million viewers in May
