When it comes to action, Gayton McKenzie puts his money where his mouth is – something he has pledged to do in support of Makhadzi’s One Woman Show in December. This follows the artist’s rant about South Africans failing to support their own, hot on the heels that Chris Brown has sold out two shows at the FNB Stadium.
The US singer bragged about filling the 96 000-seater stadium in just two hours! The venue is one of the biggest in the world, and local fans lapped up tickets.
GAYTON MCKENZIE SHOWS LOVE TO MAKHADZI AFTER CHRIS BROWN RANT
This week, Makhadzi vented about the slow-paced ticket sales for her One Woman Concert on 21 December. The show, featuring a female line-up, takes place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, the singer’s home province.
She tweeted: “South Africa KE MOVIE. So, I MUST TAKE 10 years to sell out PETER MOKABA STADIUM TICKETS . Chris Brown… 2 hours”.
The Limpop-born star is referring to news that the R&B performer has sold out his concert on 14 and 15 December at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. The 96 000-seater stadium is the third-biggest in the world – and even bigger than the Super Bowl.
In comparison, the Peter Mokabe Stadium can fill much less than that – around 41 000.
While many South Africans mocked Makhadzi for comparing herself to Chris Brown, Gayton McKenzie stepped in with a heartwarming tweet.
The Minister of Art, Sports and Culture posted: “I will be there and will buy 200 tickets for those that want to accompany me to Peter Mokaba to see one of our most biggest stars in the world.”
HOW HARD IS IT TO FILL UP FNB STADIUM?
It’s no small feat that Chris Brown sold out FNB Stadium concert tickets in just two hours; it
According to Stadium Management, the venue, previously known as Soccer City, has a 90,000 capacity. It is Africa’s largest stadium and the third biggest in the world.
It is also the location of the late Nelson Mandela’s first address after his release from prison in 1990.
The stadium cost R3,3 billion to reconstruct for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Since then, it has been used for home soccer games by the Premier League club Kaizer Chiefs. The venue has also been used for various music concerts, including the upcoming Calabash music festival featuring Robbie Williams, Green Day, and The Offspring. It also hosts multiple international rugby matches.
In 2017, South African muso Cassper Nyovest became the first local artist to fill up the venue with his sold-out concert. According to IOL, the venue cost R15 million to hire for the event, a figure he was unable to recuperate.
He said ahead of the show: “The show will cost about R15 million to put on, maybe more. Right now, we don’t have any sponsors, so I am financing it myself: The stage, the marketing, and the venue”.
To date, Cassper is the only South African artist to fill up the stadium with a local-only artist show.
