Former Skeem Saam actress Pebetsi Matlaila has bravely shared that she and her two children are currently living in a shelter after experiencing financial struggles and eviction from their rental home.
In an emotional Instagram video posted on Wednesday, Matlaila revealed that she had been unable to pay rent for several months, and despite her mother trying to assist, they were eventually forced to leave their home.
A Heartbreaking Confession
Matlaila admitted that she had been doing small gigs to make ends meet, but her earnings were not enough to cover her living expenses.

“Me and my children are at a shelter. A women and children safety house. We feel safe here. Everything is provided for,” she shared.
She also opened up about the emotional toll of her situation, admitting that she was struggling to cope.
“I was losing it. Probably having a nervous breakdown. I shouldn’t have come on social media, but I had to accept my situation and also drive my own narrative,” she said.
She further revealed that she had spent two sleepless nights crying while her children slept, feeling completely alone and without anyone to talk to.
“Yesterday [Tuesday] was my crashing point. Throughout the day, I had no one to talk to, no one. All I needed was someone to hear me out. But at the end of the day, everyone has their own problems to deal with, and I didn’t want to burden anyone with mine.”

An Outpouring of Support
After sharing her story, Matlaila was overwhelmed by the love and support she received from her followers. Many people offered donations, while others reached out with job opportunities to help her get back on her feet.
In an unexpected turn of events, she secured a job that not only provides financial stability but also comes with a car.
“I did not just get a job to sustain my children. I got a job that will also give me a car. I didn’t expect that. I cannot believe how things are turning around for me.”
She expressed deep gratitude for the generosity of strangers, saying that the support extended to her children as well.
“Words cannot begin to explain how grateful I am for the love, the gifts (a laptop to do online work and sponsors to print more books), and the financial help offered by some of you.”

Psychological Support for Her Children
Matlaila also shared that her children were receiving psychological help, which was crucial given the emotional challenges they had faced during this difficult time.
“I won’t mention names because I was asked to keep them anonymous. But please know that no matter how little or big the E-wallet, Cash Sends were, they helped more than you can imagine.”
She added that she planned to save a portion of the donations to contribute towards securing a permanent home for her and her children.
Taking Time for Reflection
To show her appreciation for the kindness she has received, Matlaila announced that she would be taking a temporary break from social media for a period of fasting and reflection.
“Last, I will go on a sabbatical (fast in thanksgiving), which means I will be offline for some time. But those who have my numbers know where to find me.”
