Dr Malinga already chewing donations money, He just bought a R5 Million McLaren car

Dr Malinga, the beloved South African musician, has once again found himself in the spotlight, but this time, for reasons that have left fans divided. A video recently surfaced showing the *Petronella* hitmaker inside a luxurious R5 million McLaren, prompting a flurry of comments across social media.

Many were quick to criticize the star, who had publicly revealed his financial struggles earlier this year, after owing the South African Revenue Service (SARS) more than R500,000 in unpaid taxes.

### The McLaren Controversy

Responding to the backlash, Dr Malinga clarified to *Zimoja* that the video was not recent, nor did he purchase the luxury car. “I did not buy the car. That is an old video I reposted from last year. It was taken during a music video shoot,” he explained. The musician revealed that a friend had brought the McLaren to the set, and he had taken it for a quick spin. “I reposted it now to promote a song. I can’t afford a McLaren as yet. Everyone knows I am still owing SARS.”

The musician emphasized that his focus is on recovering financially, not on purchasing luxury cars. “A fancy car is the last thing on my mind. I am in the process of rebuilding my life,” he added.

### Facing Financial Hardships

In September, Dr Malinga openly shared his financial troubles during an emotional interview, revealing that SARS had seized his home, auctioning off his cars and furniture. His candidness led to an outpouring of support, with fans, friends, and colleagues in the music industry stepping in to help. Oskido, Black Coffee, and Julius Malema were among those who offered assistance, with Malema even helping to cover the cost of Dr Malinga’s accountant.

The support from fans and colleagues allowed Dr Malinga to pay off R200,000 of his debt to SARS, but he is still left with a R300,000 shortfall. Despite the lingering debt, the singer remains optimistic. “People need to lighten up a bit. The ones who sent me even R10 know the kind of person I am. I have always been responsible with money. I don’t drink or smoke and have always been about family.”

### How He Got Into Debt

Dr Malinga’s financial woes can be traced back to the COVID-19 pandemic, which had a devastating impact on his business and livelihood. Known for his generosity, he had spent years donating to charities, schools, and families in need. However, when the pandemic hit, his business suffered immensely, leaving him in debt. “My wife was pregnant with twins, and I felt useless,” he shared, recalling the challenging period when SARS seized his belongings.

Despite applying for artist relief funds, Dr Malinga did not receive any support and was forced to rely on donations and handouts. Reflecting on the situation, he expressed disappointment that many people he had helped in the past were nowhere to be found during his time of need.

### Looking Forward

Grateful for the help he’s received so far, Dr Malinga is focused on rebuilding his life and is determined to get back on his feet. He remains thankful to those who supported him and plans to pay it forward when he is in a better position. “I will do the same for others,” he said.

As Dr Malinga continues his journey toward financial recovery, he remains hopeful that the future will bring brighter days. For now, he is concentrating on his career and rebuilding his life, leaving the luxury cars and lavish lifestyle behind.
