Deli Malinga receives award for ‘Umkhokha: The Curse’ role

The Umkhokha: The Curse actress Deli Malinga recently won Best Actress at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Award for her role as Mamzobe

DELI MALINGA: ‘I’M OVER THE MOON’
Speaking to Sowetan, the Umkhokha: The Curse actress Deli Malinga says she’s over the moon and the award is a validation for her craft.

“I’m so over the moon. Being recognised is the best feeling one could ever have. This award is validation for my craft, considering how I started. It was not easy to get here but it gives me such pride to be known and labelled as the best in my community,” she said.

Malinga adds that she challenged herself with the role of MaMzobe. She had to convince herself that she could play a villain and never thought her character would last this long or even scoop an award.

The actress also reveals that she had to give people a different version of herself as an actor. Because she loves what she does, she knew she’d be able to make people see a different side to her timid Generations character, Sarah.

Malinga also previously revealed to Sunday World that her character Mamzobe is not a villain.

“From understanding MaMzobe’s truth and not judging her, I don’t see her as a villain because then I’ll be judging her.”

She previously won a SAFTA as the Best Supporting Actress in a telenovela award for her role as MaNgema in Redemption.
