Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig bested 125 other hopeful contestants to win the Miss Universe 2024 crown at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on 16 November.
The new Miss Universe was crowned with the first-ever Filipino-made crown by international jewellery brand Jewelmer, featuring the Philippines’ South Sea Pearls.
CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA WINS BIG AT MISS UNIVERSE 2024
Outgoing beauty queen, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, crowned Victoria Kjær Theilvig as the new Miss Universe 2024.
Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina was the first runner-up among 125 contestants. She arguably became one of the most successful Nigerians in the beauty pageant with the win.

Mexico’s beauty queen Maria Fernanda Beltran was crowned the second runner-up, with Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri settling for third. Venezuela’s Ileana Marquez was named the fourth runner-up.
However, the final Q&A session seemingly proved to be the difference. However, Chidimma Adetshina’s big win has since thrust her into the top trends, with several Nigerians dragging South Africa online.
MAKING HEADLINES
Chidimma Adetshina withdrew from the Miss SA after her participation in the pageant was questioned after she revealed she was born to a South African mother (Zulu) of Mozambican descent and a Nigerian father.
This became a national debate, which the Department of Home Affairs later settled.
The department found prima facie evidence to believe that Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, a Mozambican, “may have committed fraud” in 2001.
MISS SA ORGANISATION CONFIRMS MIA LE ROUX’S EXIT FROM THE PAGEANT
A day before the 73rd Miss Universe pageant finale, reigning Miss SA Mia le Roux withdrew from the competition due to health concerns.
Miss SA Organisation announced the news through a now-viral statement shared online on Friday, 15 November.

Taking to Instagram, Miss SA Organisation posted, “It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant due to health concerns.”
However, against the eleventh-hour decision, South Africa’s first-ever differently abled Miss SA was thankful for the support she has been receiving.
