‘Focus on improving’: Khune throws shade at Kaizer Chiefs?

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has posted a cheeky Instagram post in the wake of the club’s 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The retired soccer player attended the match, which took place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 1 March.

Khune’s quip comes after he was called a “traitor” for supporting Orlando Pirates at the Soweto derby last month.

KHUNE MOCKS KAIZER CHIEFS?
In an Instagram post, Itumeleng Khune posted a look at his attendance as a spectator at the Kaizer Chiefs vs Sundowns PSL match in Pretoria.

The former Amakhosi goalkeeper and coach posed for a clip in front of the Lucas Moripe Stadium, which often hosts games for the Brazilians.

But according to a few of his followers, the retired player made another shady quip about his former team. Khune captioned the clip: “Focus on improving yourself, not proving yourself.”

Last year, the 37-year-old unofficially resigned from his post at Kaizer Chiefs after 20 of long service. According to reports, Khune quietly left after his contract for the 2024/2025 season was not renewed.

He has now started his next chapter outside of professional soccer, which includes working as a health and safety officer and owning shares in a sports betting agency.

COACH: ‘I FEEL FRUSTRATED’
Kaizer Chiefs’s defeat was no doubt felt by fans, considering it was their sixth successive loss to Sundowns in the league and second in a row.

Speaking in a post-match briefing, coach Nassredine Nabi said: “I feel frustrated for my players and for the fans. We feel that we had a strong performance that could’ve given us something better than what we got. But that is football. We have to accept it”.

Despite the loss, Kaizer Chiefs fans were in a jovial mood, given that rivals Orlando Pirates’s Betway Premiership title ambitions were dashed following the latter’s loss to Marumo Gallants on Saturday.
