Anele’s horror Uber trip: Driver threatens rape

Anele Mdoda has shared footage of her horror Uber trip over the weekend, in which a driver threatened her with rape.

The harrowing ordeal was shared on her X account.

ANELE MDODA: ‘I WAS IN DANGER’
On Sunday evening, Anele Mdoda posted a clip of her Uber ride from hell. The 947 presenter reportedly requested the e-hailing trip from the airport to her hotel in Cape Town.

She tweeted: “My @uber driver tonight was upset that I had picked the don’t talk to me option. He then said, ‘In my country, we would rape you to teach you a lesson,’. I had to fake being on Instagram Live to get home safe.

She continued: “Then when he got to my hotel, he started shouting at me, and I really recorded and this is what ensued…

Anele said a couple came to her aid, who observed that she was “under duress.”

In the clip, Anele tells the Uber driver: “You threatened me the whole way back here. I am recording you on purpose”.

The driver appeared hostile, demanding she exit his white Mercedes-Benz.

In another tweet, Anele revealed that she would be pressing criminal charges against the Uber driver.

UBER RESPONDS
In a statement to The South African, an Uber spokespersons said of Anele’s experience: “What has been described is completely unacceptable and we have zero tolerance for this behaviour.

“We are immediately and urgently looking into this matter. Where a driver is found to be in breach of our Community Guidelines, their access to the platform is immediately removed as the safety of everyone using the platform is a top priority.

“We are deeply committed to our responsibility of contributing to the safety of our communities and to providing the best possible experience to users on the app, which is why we are always hard at work to improve safety on the platform.

“If Uber is made aware of any incident on a trip, we investigate immediately and take appropriate action in line with our Community Guidelines. We also provide all riders with a range of safety features, including audio recording, RideCheck and an in-app emergency button“.
