Siya is the son of Shadrack Ta Sello Ntsibande and the late Phyllis Sepotokele. Both his parents were unemployed, but they ensured he got everything he needed. In January 2017, Siya’s mother succumbed to cervical cancer. His mother’s death occurred two months after he got his first acting role as Le-hasa on Keeping Score. After his elementary education in Sivuleleni Primary School, Siya joined Zifuneleni Junior Secondary School in Soweto. He was actively involved in the two famous Soweto Choirs while in high school. He was an excellent student not only in his co-curricular activities but also in his academics.
Even though he quit his studies in music, his talent as a singer still stands out. In 2013, Siyabonga Raymond Sepotokele singing expertise was seen during the Lovermore Yamaha music competition, which was hosted by Roedean School every year.
The competition focuses on classical repertoire and participation solely to candidates undertaking external music examination. The opening round of the competition took place on 3rd June where he performed two pieces. Siyabonga Sepotokele songs during the competition were Where e’er You Walk and Not While I’m Around. During the final round of the competition, he delivered an outstanding performance, which saw him take home R3,500 in vouchers from Lovermore Music.
