The media space in South Africa has been undergoing a major change over the last couple of years. We’ve seen the numbers move towards the internet instead of traditional media. This has led to the decline of the big media houses. We’ve seen talent go on to start their own things, however this doesn’t always go right. This is something that we are going to see more of with rise of the internet.
Robert Marawa is a veteran in the media space. He has spent the most of his life working as a sports broadcaster. He has had trouble over the last couple of years that have seen him cut ties with Supersport and SABC. He has been tipped to go on and start his thing alongside his fellow broadcasters who are in the same situation as him.
Robert Marawa took to social media to react after Tbo Touch teased the return of Fired FM. This was supposed to be a radio station by him, Touch, Dj Sbu and Dj Fresh. This came as a surprise considering that it looked like it was not going to happen. They have all spoken about it on different platforms.
Marawa is currently at Vuma FM while Tbo Touch made a return to Metro FM. Dj Abu has been focusing his attention into podcasting while Dj Fresh has been relatively quiet. It will definitely be amazing for the South African media space if this idea goes ahead and it will most definitely open up the industry.
These are veterans in the South African media space and they understand the struggles of broadcaster. It is definitely motivated by their shortfalls dealing with big media companies. They have all been cast aside by mainstream media, however it will definitely be a tough task. We are dealing with a bunch of people who achieved a lot and will most definitely have egos in play.
