The State’s second witness, Sergeant Mlungisi Mthethwa says vocalist Kelly Khumalo was the first person to let police know that Senzo Meyiwa had died.

Mthethwa – who was on the stand this week, was among the first responders to show up at the Vosloorus home of Kelly Khumalo the evening of the lethal shooting on 26 October 2014.

 

 

This arose in the Pretoria High Court where five men are being investigated for the murder of the previous Bafana commander.

Mthethwa says he and his accomplice just stayed at the shooting scene for a brief time, prior to going to the Botshelong Hospital where Meyiwa had been taken.

During his cross examination, Mthethwa says it was at the hospital where he experienced Khumalo, who educated him regarding Meyiwa’s passing.

Safeguard lawyer, Zandile Mshololo inquired as to whether he realized who was giving him these subtleties.

Mthethwa conceded that he neglected to ask Khumalo what her connection was to Meyiwa, and from whom she got data about his passing.

He says after the short exchange, Khumalo left the hospital and just turned up at the house some time later.
