Bantu Holomisa has called upon Khumbudzo Ntshavheni to do something about what has been happening at Umhlobo Wenene radio station.
The station recently fired popular presenter Rev Mzukisi Faleni, who used to host the Sunday evening show called Imvuselelo (Revival) alongside Nomonde Vakalisa.
Faleni was fired by the station over a “material breach” of his freelance contract with the station after he was featured in a religious show at Zibonele FM, a community radio station in the Western Cape.
The station’s decision has led to unhappiness by some of the Imvuselelo followers.
The show is believed to be followed by millions of listeners, many of them Christians.
Holomisa’s call for intervention comes after Vakalisa received death threats from an unknown caller on her cellphone, who warned she needed to choose between Imvuselelo and her son.
Police have confirmed they were investigating a case of intimidation after Vakalisa reported the matter to the Humewood police in Gqeberha.
SABC’s head of communications and stakeholder relations, Ndileka Cola, said: “The SABC can confirm that it received a letter from the leader of the UDM, Mr Bantu Holomisa, relating to the termination of Rev Mzukisi Faleni’s freelance contract for presenting the Imvuselelo programme on Umhlobo Wenene FM, due to a material breach of the said contract.”
