He was born on the 15th of November in the year 1987. Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe hails from Pretoria. His home language is Sepedi . Dj Maphorisa’s father is originally from Nigeria but his mother is from South Africa.

The international superstar disc jockey grew up in a music adoring family. His mother was a member of a music related congregation which boosted his love for the profession.

Dj Maphorisa has highlighted international and South African stars including the likes of Wizkid, Kabza De Small, Black Coffee and a vast of others.

While he was still very much a fast rising sensation, he became part of Uhuru , a musically inclined group of like minds. While he was still part of the group, he released his first official single, which was a well accepted song.
